Yes, they must have your permission, in writing. And you would probably notice if someone from the insurance company came by for blood and urine samples from you, and when they wrote you a letter asking for you to release medical records to them.
But, you can also look up if anyone APPLIED for life insurance coverage for you, for a $75 fee, here: http://www.mib.com/html/lost-life-insurance.html If it's been applied for, they'll give you the list of companies, which you then have to call to see if a POLICY was actually taken out. |

No, no one can take out a life insurance policy without you knowing.
Most life insurance you need a medical done, so unless something dire happened im sure you would remember someone poking you with a needle and asking you to fill a cup.
There are some term products out there which do not require underwriting, or even an agent, to place. But these require your signature and there are fraud departments (sometimes called S.I.U.) that investigate any attempt at fraud. |

People must have your consent to buy life insurance on you. |

yes they do have to have your permission , you have to sign the application. plus the person buying the policy has to have an insurable interest it means he has to lose something if you die |

Its pretty common for companies to have insurance on key personal to cover lost productivity and cost of recuiting a replacement.
PS. Try replacing "must" with "need to" |

to avoid fraud. For example, if someone took out a life ins policy on you and started to eliminate you to profit from it, well, you catch my drift! Don't sign anything! |

Yes, this measure was put in place many, many years ago about the same time the stalking laws were being passed.
Now, if you have life insurance on someone else other than a dependent, their signature is required and must be done in the presence of the licensed agent writing the policy. |

Only if they can show that there is an existing contract which establishes insurable interest such as a business contract or divorce papers. The only company that I know of that does this is Lloyd's of London. They do not report to the MIB, so it wouldn't show up in that instance.
Peterson International is an underwriter for Lloyd's and can bind up to $20m per person. Email me if you have any more questions about the program. |
