i always made it a point to ask about benefits when being
interviewed for a job. sometimes i was surprised by the
ones that did not offer benefits, and, once i had worked my
way past asking "do you want fries with that?" never
considered working for those places. so long as applicants
don't require benefits, many places will not offer them. when
they cannot get enough quality workers they will change. |

No, employers are not required to provide their employees with health benefits.
If your employer does not offer a group health benefits plan then you will want to consider purchasing an individual health insurance plan.
The downside to an individual health insurance plan is that you are not guaranteed to be approved for coverage. However, if you are fairly healthy then you will be accepted.
The upside to an individual plan is that they are much cheaper than a group plan and cover the same things.
Also, if you purchase an individual plan then you can take your coverage with you whether you stay at your current employer or not.
Here is some more information on finding individual health insurance: |

No your employer is not required to offer insurance. Most large employers offer insurance but because of the rising cost many small employers can not afford to offer it. |
