Do you have to have regular insurance and sr22 insurance at the same time?

Yes - an SR22 is an ENDORSEMENT (or addition) to a REGULAR insurance policy, guaranteeing the state requiring it, that you DO have insurance, and they won't cancel you during the policy period, no matter what. That means, you USUALLY have to pay the whole policy period up front - no installments available.

No an sr22 filing is an endorsement that is added to your current auto insurance policy, showing the dmv, that yes you do have the coverages required by your state. If your current company will not issue sr22 filings - some dont ...check around for a company that will. You may be surprised that you were overpaying for your insurance all along anyways.

no, unless your state has stringent sr22 laws.

An SR22 is an endorsement to your regular insurance policy. It is just a piece of paper that is sent to the state proving that you have insurance. If, for some reason, your policy cancels the insurance company then sends notice to the state that you no longer have insurance and generally your license is then suspended.

SR-22 is not insurance, it is an endorsement on your policy that requires you to be financially responsible if you injure someone in an accident.

Basically in easy to understand terms it is a clause on your insurance policy that covers injuries to another party if you injure them in an accident.

Most of the time you are required to carry this kind of insurance after a dui or an accident with no insurance or with insurance without bodily injury coverage.

It can get pricey...so good luck. Also make sure you never let your policy lapse once you start the SR-22 required policy, otherwise in most cases the time period you must carry the sr-22 starts all over and you are back to square one.

Good luck

Insurance is required by statute in all states if you drive a car. Either the owner or the driver of the car has to have insurance. An SR-22 is a court filing to prove you have insurance (or financial responsibility in some states) in force. If you're required to have an SR-22 it's probably because you were caught driving without insurance and having an SR-22 is part of the agreement to reinstate your license. Insurance companies have to GUARANTEE insurance is in force for at least 90 days to issue a SR-22, so you'll have to pay (in guaranteed funds) for 90 days of coverage + SR-22 filing fees to put a policy & filing in place. If you are required to have an SR-22 and you cancel the insurance, the insurance company will report an SR-26 to the court and the court will follow up by suspending your license again. If your license has not been suspended then you are still required to have insurance to drive a car, but not an SR-22.
