Do you have to pay a down payment every time you renew your insurance pollicy?
I've only had insurance for a year now, when i first got it i paid a down payment of so much, but i thought that was just a one time thing. Now it's time for me to renew my policy and they want more money......and it's a lot. $553.00 for a down payment. Is this right, or should i try another insurance company?
Additional Details
If this renewal fee does appy........why? Why is that you can't just keep paying your monthly payments. I am a new driver so i understand that my insurance is going to be high, but this high? I pay monthly, not quarterly.

Some companies do strange things with billings. Some require more on the first month and then the billings are less after that, others just split it equally.

Check with your insurance agent and see if they have any other companies with less for a down payment.

I'd try another company, but you will usually have to pay a small renewal fee.

YES, I'M AN INSURANCE AGENT. EVERYTIME YOUR POLICY COMES UP FOR RENEWAL, YOU HAVE TO MAKE THAT RENEWAL DOWNPAYMENT. AND YES,
$533.00 SOUNDS A LITTLE TO MUCH.

if it is a commercial vehicle insurance, then yes u will have to pay a down payment every time u renew.

otherwise u dont have to pay. it automatically is renewed unless u tell them to cancel the policy at the end of the term.

There are many factors that apply here but generally your auto insurance policy automatically renews. When it does so, your insurance company expects payment according to the guidelines of the payment schedule you selected. If the initial installment is too much for your budget, call your agent and ask about alternative pay plans your insurance carrier may offer. eg monthly quarterly EFT

If you don't pay the policy in full when it renews, you have to pay the first installment, PLUS enough to carry you through the cancellation period if you don't pay a future installment. Example: your state requires you to receive 20 days notice prior to cancellation of an auto policy for nonpayment of premium. You're on a "monthly" payment schedule. You have to pay TWO months for the first installment.

The ONLY alternative, sometimes, is to set up the payments to automatically be taked out of your checking account, but usually you have to be a month ahead on that, also, in case you don't have enough in the account to pay the insurance.

Try another company. Sounds like way too much.
