Do you need liability insurance for a wedding reception?

LesElle
The reception hall and/or caterer will likely require it, and it is the responsible thing to do anyway. You want to be protected in case someone get's hurt at the reception or in case a guest damages the property or hurts another guest, etc. Check your homeowners insurance or renters insurance policy (call your agent to confirm). These policies include personal liability insurance, and it may very well extend to cover a party you have at a location other than your home. You may need to buy an endorsement to your policy for the specific event. The cost for this will be nominal.

graciegirl
if you do it in a State park or garden of some sort YEs you Do, ususally the caterers or party planners carry liability

FelixtheCat
The place you have the wedding/reception at should carry the insurance.

dannie2203
Most sites require at least a $1 million dollar insurance policy for the day. Just call the company you go through for your homeowner's insurance and it usually runs about $200.

Doug
I don't think so but the trick is don't invite people who would sue you. I wish I took insurance out on my marriage in general.

tonalc1
Usually the cost of the hall rental would include the cost. If it doesn't, you should get a "special events" policy that includes Host Liquor Liability. It costs around $500.

If you are the company hosting the reception yes you should in case someone gets hurt; however, if you are the bride/groom doing the reception then the place that you have it at should have insurance.

ELAINE C
You don't have to have it, but it's a real good idea. What if somebody gets drunk and has an accident on the way home? Or if they damage property at the reception hall? Or get in a fight and cause injury? Etc etc etc. Because the reception hall can actually sue YOU.

Jerko
If you're driving to it...

Other than that, the place you rent out should have insurance on their property.

Quit worrying and finish planning your wedding!

Have each guest sign a waiver stating they are responsible for there own damages caused by the excitement. It's really not a bad idea to look into it, depending on how much alcohol is being served and the type of people attending. I've seen guests catch fire to things before, and even break windows...(LOL).
