Yes. I've had them personally and used for hospitalizations and surgeries. AND, I also sell them and have had a couple clients with cancer and other items with no issues at all.
The problem is you need a broker to not only find you the right insurance company, but you also need to find the right plan within the insurance company. There are plans with United...and BlueCross...and Assurant, and all the others that I refuse to sell because they have limited benefits.
Complaints come from buying the wrong plan or not understanding how the plan works.

NO! i went through UH through ritecare an their horrible.. my daughter was 2 months old with bronchitus and took her off medical insurance so i brought her to the doctor and had to pay $300 for her medical care that would've been free. i called them so many times and no one could give me any answers as to why they cancelled it or anything. i canceled everything with them and went with blue cross, and i've been happy ever since.. not one complaint with them

If you are asking about individual and family health insurance, I would say United Healthcare is a good company.
Their premiums are affordable, their network is vast, and they have recently upgraded benefits on many of their plans. This is from the perspective of an insurance agent who offers their plans.
