Let me tell you a little true story. 12 years back a middle aged secretary at my workplace got a phone call one morning from a neighbour telling her that her bungalow was on fire. Her home was completely burnt out and nothing was saved of the contents. She had full insurance cover - buildings and contents - her insurance company footed the bill for her and her husband to stay in a small local hotel while her home was rebuilt, the day after the fire they gave her a cash advance against her contents policy because all she and her husband had were the clothes that they went to work in. The Bungalow was rebuilt at the insurers cost and the amount they got from their contents insurance refurnished the home etc.
Her insurers were CIS. Without them the couple would have been homeless and in deep deep sh*te. Is it a waste of time, they would not think so! |

With most privately rented accommodation its written into the agreement that house insurance is a must, the landlord covers for fire and water damage/accidental damage insurance. With your own or housing association property its a necessity, never leave yourself uncovered. |

You won't think it's a waste of time (time? don't you mean money?) when your house burns down, or your pipes freeze and flood the place, or a tornado knocks it down, or someone slips and falls on your front walk and tries to sue you. |

Trust me, I hear your frustration!! Only one out of the six claims I've tried to make against my home insurance actually went through. Excuses ranged from "sorry, but if you read the small print ..." to "you will have to wait 8 months for a repair and if you hire someone yourself we will not pay for them"
Utterly ridiculous. So, I switched insurers. I assume that you're basing your "waste of time" theory on the experience of maybe 1-3 home insurers? They're are plenty of good ones out there and of course it is worth it.
There are dozens of review sites out there where you can get a general feel for who is likely to try and refuse every claim. |
