Suicude is usually not paid by Life Insurance policies to prevent people buying insurance then killing themself. Suicide is not considered accidental death -- by definition it is actually murder (of the self). While I am sure that are a number of "accidental deaths" that are actually suicides and life insurance gets paid (getting in a car wreck on purpose for instance) if the insurance company has any suspicions they are going to investigate heavily.
I hope you're not asking this because you are thinking of killing yourself. |

Most life insurances have a suicide clause - where if you commit suicide within a certain number of months or years from buying the policy, they won't pay out. |

Need to read the policy. Some state that if a suicide within, say two years of obtaining the policy, it will not pay. |

Insurance won't pay off on a suicide...why? |

It depends on the policy. Suicide is definitely not considered to be accidental death, but the policy may or may not contain a void clause for suicide. Most do, but not all. |

It depends how the policy is written. Some have a suicide clause, others don't.
You have to check the fine print. |

Nope. suicide is not considered an accidental death. Insurance won't pay if the death is ruled a suicide.
On a more practical note. If you are contemplating suicide please seek counseling or professional help. |

Nope a suicide is something you do not like a freak accident. |

no.. life insurance will not pay out if a death is ruled suicide. |

Suicide is obviously NOT an accident since it is pre-meditated. With any life insurance policy that I am familiar with, suicide voids the policy if done within two years of the effective date. |

It depends. Most Insurance Policies have a 2 year Suicide Clause. If it occurs within those first two years, the Insurance will be declined. But still, after 2 years, I am sure an Insurance Company would still try to not pay it. |

depends on the insurance - my life insurance has a 'suicide clause' - you can't commit suicide for the first 2 years of the policy |

Suicide is not considered an accident. It is an intentional act by the person committing suicide.
In most states the life insurance policy benefit must be paid in case of suicide, if the policy has been in force for two years. In some states, such as Colorado, the policy must pay for suicide after one year in force.
There is a clause relating to suicide in the life insurance policy. You can refer to it in your policy for a complete explanation of how it is applied to your coverage.
Example Suicide Clause:
The suicide clause states that the company will not pay the face amount of the policy if the policyholder commits suicide within two years ( 1 year in some states) of purchase. The only payment is a refund of premiums paid. This is to prevent someone from purchasing a life insurance policy and committing suicide with the intent of leaving their beneficiary with a financial sum.
I hope that helps! Take care and good luck. |

Some insurance companies do pay out suicide cases. However different insurance packages cover differently. Check with your insurance agent or read the policy thoroughly. It should be stated inside. Be careful not to fall into the trap of two insurance policies covering the same thing and only one is claimable. It must state "including and on top of your other policies" in order to be covered for the same claim with two policies. |

yes. it voids it. better let someone else do the job. |

I think the law is different in different States. I did not know where you are located--but this is the general answer.
Suicide Clause:
A limitation in a life insurance policy that states that if an insured commits suicide during the initial term of the policy (usually two years), that no death benefits will be paid by the insurance company
===============================
Accidental Means:
An uncontrollable, unforeseen event that occurs which results in accidental bodily injury (See also Accidental Bodily Injury). The mishap itself would have to be accidental in addition to the injury. |

You usually lose out on the life insurance for a suicide, unless the suicide victim was previously diagnosed with severe mental illness. |

Look at the details of your policy. A criminal investigation that determines suicide would eliminate "accidental death" by definition. Most states require an exclusion period until which the contract would be void if the death were by suicide. If you're considering suicide yourself, I recommens you seek help at http://www.befrienders.org |

Suicide almost always voids an insurance payout. It is not an accident! |

it completely null and voids your life insurance in any case of suicide! |

Not covered but should be if proved to be a medical condition. Cancer patients have no control over their disease killing them and neither does an emotionally distraught or mentally ill person. |

I know you already have a lot of answers, but I hope you read this one because you have gotten a lot of bad information. Suicide is not considered an accident and if you only have an accident policy there would be no benefits. However, life insurance is different. If the policy is over 2 years old, it is out of what is called the "contestable period" and most companies will pay regardless of how death occurs. Even if it is suicide!!! |

My husband advises me that not within the first two years. Never is it considered an "accidental death", you know you are doing it on purpose, aren't you. Suicide is stupid and a coward's way out. You should stick it out and get help. God does not like people who take their own life, He has plans for you. Just get on some medication or help, and also get closer to God. God gave you your life and He is the one to decide when it is over. If you interfere with His plans, then you will be sorry. You know too, what if the suicide does not work out and just injure you? What if the suicide does not pay out, and you just waste your life on nothing? It takes courage to live, it takes a coward to take their own life. Read the book of Job in the Bible, and how God gave him strength through his pain. Emotional pain is the worse, but you can get through it. If you are terminal, then go to Hospice, and they will help you with your pain. Mainly, get help first. |

Are you plotting to kill someone and make it look like a suicide? |

It depends on the policy.
I have a farmers life $500,000 policy that covers suicide after 2 years of continuous coverage. I know I couldn't believe it when they told me that but hey.
about 2% of the payouts with this plan are suicide.
The only thing it doesn't cover is death via military action. Weather in the military or not. |

Most, if not all, life insurance policies do not pay out for suicide. Think about it, take out a million dollar policy then kill yourself so your family can live richly. Beside the fact that the family you leave behind will grieve for years, insurance companies could never afford it. |

Suicide is NOT an accidental death, it's deliberate.
Suicide voids a life insurance payout if it happens within 2-3 years of the day the policy is first purchased (time period varies, check your policy to find out the exact period of time). |

Yes, suicide definitely voids a payout on a life insurance policy because it is not natural or accidental. If you are thinking about taking your life, please don't. I wanted to do the same thing years ago and I am sooo glad I am still here. Life does get better. Please, talk to somebody who can help you. |
