Does anybody know if my auto insurance will cover damage to my car doors caused by my kid?
My child was playing outside and accidentally damaged my car door. Would this be covered under comprehensive or maybe my home owners policy?
This damage you can claimed under your auto policy. According to ISO form PP 01 001 stated:
We will pay for direct and accidental loss to "your covered auto" or any "non-owned auto", including their equipment, minus any applicable deductible shown in the Declarations. If loss to more than one "your covered auto" or "non-owned auto" results from the same "collision", only the highest
applicable deductible will apply. We will pay for loss to "your covered auto" caused by:
1. Other than "collision" only if the Declarations indicate that Other Than Collision Coverage is provided for that auto.
2. "Collision" only if the Declarations indicate that Collision Coverage is provided for that auto. If there is a loss to a "non-owned auto", we will provide the broadest coverage applicable to any "your covered auto" shown in the Declarations.
The HO policy not cover this kind of damage to your auto.

Your auto policy should cover the damage but you'll have to pay your deductable which may make it not worth your time and trouble.

Ask yourself this: what is your deductible? Would it even be worth it to submit the claim to your carrier? Or would you be better off just paying the repair costs yourself?

It will likely be covered less your deductible under your auto policy.
DFK
It is covered under comprehensive less your deductible.

I would call your car insurance first. If its not more than your deductible then I wouldn't worry about trying to get them to pay for it. Then try your home owners insurance. See what they say. It may be cheaper to just pay for it your self. Depends on the amount of damage though I would think. Good luck.

Damage to your car is NEVER covered by your homeowners policy, no matter what. It's always excluded.
It's going to depend on the type of damage - if it's vandalism type, and your child is young enough, then it would be covered under comp, on the standard auto form. Some forms will exclude damage caused by household members. Your deductible WILL apply.

I dont think that they will cover it if you tell them your kid did it, but if you act like you dont know what happend (depending on the damage) example - just say something like you came out of a parkinglot and saw the damage they might cover it.
