Ya know, I REALLY don't get this. Insurance is JUST a form of gambling. The insurance company sets the odds. You know how much your bet is going in, and how much the potential payoff might be.
When you go to the track, if you put your money on the wrong horse (like, buying house insurance without buying flood insurance, and then getting upset if you have an "uncovered flood"), do you hate the bookies?
When you go to buy a lottery ticket, and you play the same numbers every day, but skip one day and the numbers come in (that would be like having a medical bill without health insurance in force to pay it), do you hate your state lottery commission?
You're much more likely to have a covered claim (if you buy insurance) than you are to win big at the track, or hit the jackpot, but people would rather complain about insurance, which pays out more than it takes in, than other forms of gambling, which pay out about 10% of what they take in.

Oh, this is my favorite question to answer. I now work in Customer Service at an insurance company. People call in and they "hate" insurance companies. Guess what? Nobody's MAKING you purchase insurance. People call all the time wanting to cancel their life insurance (or other insurance policies) and ask "So do I get all my money back?" as in all the premiums that they've paid in. When I say "No", they say "But nothing was paid out! That's not fair!" Guess what, if you would have DIED while you were covered we WOULD have paid out. Insurance is a gamble. An insurance company HAS to make money somehow, otherwise there's no way they could operate. |

Insurance sucks until you need it. And then it really sucks because you never get as much money as you think you deserve.
However, without insurance few people would be able to own a house or car. Few businesses would be able to start and stay in business. How many of us pay cash for our homes. Without insurance, that is what would be required.

I love insurance. Thanks to all you wonderful people paying their premiums I have a nice job in an air conditioned office that keeps the sun and rain off my head.
