| Does anyone have any recommendation for life insurance for pilots? |
My boyfriend of 2 years is a 26 year old commercial pilot and flight instructor (hopefully airlines soon). We plan to get married in the next year or two. I was thinking that I should take out life insurance on him since we've lived together for the 2 years we've been together. My dad is a pilot too, and a lot of his friends have died flying over the years. Currently my boyfriend is one of my beneficiaries on my policy I get through work.
Does anyone have any advice about doing this? Are there any good companies that specialize in these types of scenarios? Additional Details Thanks for the info! He has about 1,200 hours, and I know he has his CFI, CFII, MER. |

You should be able to get life insurance on him. Some companies will accept pilots. They will charge what they call a "flat extra" meaning a flat amount on top of the regular premium to pay for the risk of being a pilot. I just talked to a client who is a crop duster pilot and instead of $550 per year it was going to be $5,500 per year (a flat extra of $5,000 per year). It will be expensive, but you should be able to get it done. Try talking to a local agent. This link will put you in touch with some who deal in life insurance specifically. It's a great resource. Good luck! http://www.myinsurancequotes.net/insurance_quotes.html

Yes, the fact that you have coverage and have named him beneficiary, and plan to get married - would be a good idea for you to get coverage on him.
There are some companies that offer more competitive rates for pilots.
One way to check on quotes with no obligation is to request free life insurance quotes online at efinancial - visit https://www.efinancial.com/smartquoteefc.aspx?source=389-707 You just answer some questions and they give you up to 12 instant quotes from top-rated insurers. There is no obligation.
Also, you can check online at https://insurance.hsbcusa.com/quotal/simple-term-hsbc.cfm?AgentId=9200&mc_id=107TVXWFW for an instant quote. You answer about 7 questions and get a life insurance quote from an "A+" rated life insurer that offers term life insurance and there's no physical exam required.
I hope these options help you out. Best of luck to you and your boyfriend. |

i myself am a flying instructor hoping to get direct entry with an airline, im not sure where you are, but im in the UK, and a colleague who has just taken a direct entry position with easyjet has life insurance through easyjet themselves, its part of the job package, but i believe its underwritten by zurich. dont know if this will help you but thought it was worth a mention. |

I would contact an independent life insurance agent and let him/her tell you waht is available. But HE is the one who needs to take out the policy on himself. |

There are many companies that will cover him although there will be a surcharge. My son is a helicopter pilot in the army so he has a double chance of something happening and I was able to get him a decently priced policy. Call a local independent agent to see what they can do for you. |

He's going to have to get coverage through his employer. He's got what you call a high risk occupation.
If you go to a high risk company, rates will likely be 5x to 10x what they would be, if he flipped burgers at McDonalds. IF the company is willing to take him on at all. |

Any extra rating would depend on his experience with flying and will vary greatly depending on the company. There are some companies that will issue standard or even better. Without straining too hard, I can tell you to check with Prudential and AIG.
If you are in NC or FL, feel free to have your bf contact me and I'll explore other options as well. |
