jillywilly | Does anyone know anythin i can apply for to help with doctors bills? |
I am a healthy 25 year old woman. I am a stay at home mom, my husbands a police offcier. The thing is, i need to go to the doctor but we can not afford insurance and can't afford the medicial bills once i go. I was going to a "free" clinic, but they really didn't care so it seemed. Is there any kind of medicaid or anything i could apply for that would help?? Thanks. |

I wish I knew the answer to that one. All I can say is to stick with the free clinics. And keep pressuring them to do what it is that you want them to do. I too visit the free clinic and have requested MRIs. I know these aren't cheap, and after saying that I'd like to have another MRI, the doctor let's it go in one ear and out the other. Once our session is over I have to repeat myself until he fills out the necessary paperwork in order to get the job order in progress. My recommendations? DON'T GIVE IN TO WHAT THE DOCTORS SAY. They're just trying to save the state extra money. This angers me a bit because NEVER in my life have I had to depend on anything! I was never unemployed, but yet I paid taxes, hoping I could use what I paid in should I become disabled. Well it just so happens that I am and by all means, I AM GOING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT! You should too! |

Likely not. If your husband's a cop, why aren't you on HIS insurance??
Medicaid counts HOUSEHOLD income. Your choosing not to work (which, btw, I applaud, as no job is more important than raising our children) does NOT entitle you to my dollars to pay your medical bills - which is what Medicaid is.
You might want to consider a part time job with benefits, around your husband's schedule. OR, take in a few kids for daycare, then you can pay the $250 a month for a private policy, and the copays. |

If your husband is a police officer, why aren't you using the insurance available through his employer?
If your financial situation is that bad where you even have to turn down what is typically pretty generous family coverage, then perhaps you should think about getting at least a part time job. |

The term "I am healthy" however; need to go to the doctor usually conflict each other along with the second statement.... Once I do go, I can't afford the medical bills...
Assuming that your husband works for the only police department that does not offer a lucrative tax payor paid benefits package I would suggest finding some remedies on the individual market. Something in the area of a high deductible health plan as this would give you the releif of contracted rates, cheap premiums versus doctor street prices. You may not be able to afford the premiums but you cannot afford not to be covered. Medical bills can clean you out real fast and also can lead to having problems finding access to care.
The problem in the world today is the very situation you bring to the table today. You seek health insurance when you are needing to use the benefits not as a protection tool which its intented. I would strongly suggest that you find a budget for it.
As for medicade, that is a variable as each state basically runs their own rules. You need to reach out to your local medicade division to see if you qualify. |

why doesn't your husband get insurance from work? do you have insurance for the kids? either get Blue Cross Blue Shield, or pay for the bills. you'll find that in the long run, it's cheaper to pay for the insurance. |

You can apply for public medicaid and see if you qualify. Some county hospitals have plans/assistance that you may qualify for. You should contact your local hospital and find out your possible options. |
