They have credit councilors who will work with you. Just call the number on the bill and say you need to speak to one. After you get this settled go get health insurance!!!!!!! It is so important. You could have just had a $200 or so bill. Sorry to slam you. Just live and learn my friend.

Yep, call the billing department. See if they'll reprice to a cash price, and set up a payment plan for you.

They do try to work with you and some do take a little off the bill. Payments shouldn't be a problem. Most people wouldn't be able to pay all of that at once. Talk to them and try to reach an agreement.
I wish you the best.

Usually they will lower the bill after doing a financial evaluation on you. Most hospitals are very willing to work with you if you are consistent and honest. Also, ask them if they can help you determine if you are eligible for Medicaid.

They don't make it public knowledge, but they do. Just be polite and ask. Call the billing department and tell them you'd like to set up a payment agreement. (offer to put it in writing so they know you're serious) Then, ask if there's a discount for cash paying patient. As long as you're dilligent about making payments on time every month, they probably will take a chunk off.

Nearly all the responses you received are excellent. Yes, you can negotiate with the hospital. You just need to find the correct person. Start with the hospital's "patient advocate" or "financial counselor."

call them and set up a pymt plan. as long as you are making regular pymts on the acct, they'll be happy and you'll be out of hot water for not paying a bill you are responsible for.

Some or most will definitely work out some kind of payment agreement. They rather get paid instead of nothing at all. And if you need help with future Medical or Dental care, email me. I know of a program that can help you with that.

Eskimo Mom
It's possible, if you are persistant & come prepared. Get in touch with the hospital & anyone who treated you. You need to speak to someone in their billing or accounting office. Explain your situation & ask if you can get onto a payment plan or if there is a local program to help you. Try to have a meeting if possible to negotiate an agreement. Have a budget in mind & bring any necessary documentation (income, medical bills, etc.). Then, get everything in writing, so they can't come back on you later. Also, live up to the agreement to make it easier on you should another problem arise later. Try to get medical insurance, so you don't have to worry anymore. Good luck!!

scooter girl
Yes they will let you make payments. Just write them a letter indicating what you can do and then make sure you continue making payments. Good intentions are better than none.

HR Girl
They will definitely discount the bill and let you set up a payment plan, this applies to whether you have insurance or not. For those who have insurance and have to pay co-insurances, you can negotiate with the hospital on their fees for major procedures and even child birth. Good luck.
