Yes, fortunately there are laws that will enable you to continue your health coverage. Below is a link with information on continuing health insurance.
For those unable to qualify for health insurance, because of a pre-existing condition, a Discount Medical Plan such as AmeriPlan may be an option. Many have saved thousands by having AmeriPlan when Insurance will not cover them or the cost is too great for coverage.

I think you have 3 options:
1) COBRA
2) A guaranteed issue state run high risk insurance pool, if your state has one.
3) A "business group of one" group plan, if your state mandates them.

Not all employers are required to offer Cobra coverage. Some states have terrific state plans (such as Indiana and Maryland). Google "Open Enrollment" for your state. But make sure it is a .gov website.

Basing my answer that you are in the USA. IF you are changing jobs, your current job, by law, HAS to send you an official notice within a month of you leaving asking if you want to continue your health insurance. If you do, you certify mail (return receipt requested), the signed form and return it to your employers. This insurance has a limit of 18 months until it terminates you. The ONLY way you can get coverage on pre-existing conditions is if you work for a company. There is no insurance company that I know of that will insure you with a pre-existing condition if you are not working. If you are married, then you can be covered under your spouses insurance with no problem. |

take COBRA and get your knees fixed. An insurance company isn't going to want to pay for your knees. AND, it doesn't matter who 'knows' about it. Because it's not like the new company is going to believe that the day after you got coverage your knees immediately needed surgery. |
