Does anyone know of a good renters insurance that I could look into?
I live in an apartment and would like to purchase insurance.

First its important to understand renters insurance, there are different types of coverage. You shouldn't think about cost without considering benefit. In other words begin by understanding what you are trying to protect with your insurance and then get some bids based on your needs. Price alone cant be the factor, the cheapest insurance may offer the least coverage and not do the job you are looking for.
Go to yourpropertypath.com and look at the renters insurance article - its really informative. Decide for yourself what kind of coverage you need and then go to the first article in that list and get some quotes...let agents compete for your business...There are no subscription fees or costs to you for a quote
Good Luck!

I have renters insurance from Travellers Insurance. I pay like....16 dollars a month. It varies depending on what kind of apartment you live in, where you live, etc....

Avoid the online Renters policies. I have found that they are always more costly for less coverage. This may be attributed to the fact that many do not run an insurance score on their clients, and therefore charge everyone high risk rates to ensure they take in more than they pay out. I would recommend Farmers to anyone. If your credit is anything but the worst possible scenario, you will always come out ahead. All major US carriers base insurance decisions on credit to some degree these days, and that works to the advantage of most people. When purchasing a policy, make sure that your limits are high enough to cover your belongings at FULL REPLACEMENT COST, not ACTUAL CASH VALUE! More importantly, make sure that your liability limits are at least 100K. The difference between 25K and 100K is next to nothing. If you have decided to purchase a policy, make sure that what you are paying for will actually do you some good if you really need it.

The agent who sold you your car insurance can tell you the local companies who sell renter's insurance. It's a property and casualty product. Cost is based on the size of the deductible you choose. Many only bill once or twice a year. If you're a forgetful person you may want to pay the roughly $150 or so annually so that it's off your mind and there when/if you need it.

Anyone that's A rated would be fine. I'd strongly suggest looking at the company that provides your car insurance - the discount on your car insurance would effectively mean free renters insurance.

They're pretty much all the same!!

Call the major company's like Allstate, Statefarm, etc. Have your questions ready, how much coverage you want, what kind of deductible you want, how your apt or building is set up, i.e. smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, sand pipes, is it brick, does it have fire doors. Ask your landlord about the building and also if he has an insurance company that he recommends. And compare prices.
