leanne | Does anyone know of an insurance company that treats pre-existing conditions? |
I have MPGN type 2 (kidney disease). I will eventually need a transplant and currently taking medications. I also have asthma. Additional Details I do have medicaid but doesnt that end after you turn 19????
For the record I just turned 19 Saturday. I have an apt with the medicaid office tomorrow so i will be asking that.
Coverage wise I can't really afford anything so the take 80% off cards I wouldnt do for those who warned against it.
I see a kidney specialist every 2 months sometimes shorter periods when i see my doctor i go for "lab work" and tests which cost $1,000 dollars every time i go. Plus i take 4 medications at the moment and refill them every 1-2 months!!!And im going for a checkup next week(right now my ins under my parents covers it )--they will be deciding and looking at tests i just went for about when to do a kidney biopsy....
the purpose of finding ins right now is so that i can start my life, be able to move out, not depend on my parents, and not let my disease run my life anymore...
thank you to all that helped and took the time to answer!! |

IF you are Medicare eligible - and if you need a transplant you might be close to End Stage Renal Disease status, which allows you entry into Medicare without the typical two-year waiting period. Talk to the local kidney association - if you don't know them, talk to your local state representative and have them hook you up.
You don't mention dialysis, so it doesn't sound like that's the case. A few states like NY would allow you to get coverage without pre-x. Again, try your state rep.
But why not stay on your parents' insurance? Enroll in a community college as a full-time student. Much cheaper than buying an insurance policy on your own. |

For the most part, you will not be able to get an individual policy with those pre-existing conditions.
If you get on a group policy through an employer you will usually get coverage after a certain time period, usually 1 year.
Be very wary of medical discount cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card.
One state couldn’t find any doctors in that state that took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/west/2006/11/22/74554.htm for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards.
Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients. Also, with these cards you are responsible for the entire payment up-front. |

Medicaid and Medicare will treat pre-existing conditions, as will most group policies (through an employer) AFTER you wait out the time period.
No one else will. It's like betting on a horse race after it's over. |
