Does anyone know of an insurance company that won't discriminate against people with multiple sclerosis?
Husband and sister-in-law both have M.S. and we are having great difficulty finding company that will give us a decent proposal.
Ones we tried so far, premiums too high and final payment not even enough to cover cost of flowers!!!!!!! HELP!!!!

i would check with a ms charity as they might be able to help. but to be honest i don't think you'll have much luck with a mainstream one due to the nature of the disease.... sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Would suggest speaking to a doctor or consultant who has probably encountered people in the same position before, and may be able to suggest someone for medical insurance.
Also if you are looking for travel insurance and live in the EU, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), covers a large amount of health costs that may be necessary whilst travelling in Europe, it's free of charge, and doesn't discriminate against any pre-existing conditions.

Unfortunately (and assuming you are talking about medical insurance) it is not a matter of social discimination it is simply the economics that you are in a far higher risk category than someone who is undiagnosed.

I would assume that they will ensure you for non-MS related illnesses at a reasonable rate but not for conditions that are MS related ... from their point of view I would think that they will view it as a poor risk if not a certainty of payout.

All I can suggest is that you contact an MS charity in your area and see if they have specific advice on insurance - unfortunately folk will have travelled your path before.

God luck

Just a suggestion as I am a professional Consultant for a Will Consultancy and Estate Planning Company:

If you are looking to purchase insurance to cover the cost of a funeral - then you may be wasting your time. If you do find a company prepared to insure you with MS, then the premiums will be excessively high with minimal returns.

Solution: purchase your funeral now with a "Pre-paid Funeral Plan." There are various plans available at differing costs, but the average is around £2000, depending how many cars are required etc. This cost can be paid in a lump sum if you have enough saved - or, you can spread the cost by paying monthly (like an insurance premium) over say 5 years.

Advantages are:
(1) funeral cost is set at todays prices, so even if the eventual cost is say £3000 - no worries - you have paid for it already. Virtually every expense is covered within some plans and you can even build in extra cash for unforseen circumstances or for the "Do" after! I know of people in their 20's/30's who have paid under £2000 for their funeral now knowing that if they live a long life - the eventual cost of the funeral could be around £15/20k - quite a saving by buying now don't you think?
(2) No medical questions are required as it's not insurance - ideal for people with serious medical conditions.

Hope this has been of use - best of luck for the future.

maybe a multiple sclerosis support groups can give you companies for this.

as for what they are (names) you should start by searching the net for them

Your best bet is to set up separate insurance between you and your husband. At least then only half of your policies will be rated (made more expensive) This toltally depends on what you want the insurance for.

so, you want to pay the same rates as a guy being treated for cancer? Because that's what discrimination is - assessing potential costs, and lumping people into groups with similar potential costs, and charging rates appropriate to that group.

Kinda like car insurance - if there wasn't discrimination in car insurance rates, every one of us would pay the same rate as a 16 year old, with 3 drunk driving convictions and 5 at fault accidents. Would that be a good thing for everyone without that sort of driving record?

It means people without MS don't have to pay those exhorbitant rates, which is actually most of us . . .

Your loved ones are not being discriminated against. You CAN NOT wait until you get sick and THEN try to get insurance. The insurance companies would never be able to collect enough premium to cover the claims. What you are asking for is charity.

I know MS is a horrible thing but if you are concerned with funeral expenses (I'm assuming this because of your comment about the cost of flowers) then I suggest you begin holding fundraisers or socking away as much as possible in savings now. I also agree the Pre-funded Funeral is a great way to go.

It can't be stressed enough: Get your insurance NOW while you are healthy and young. It is incredibly inexpensive if you buy it at the right time. You CAN NOT wait until you need it - it doesn't work that way.

There not discriminating! Just because you're not willing to pay the price. Insurance company's are not in business to lose money. To answer your real question is yes I do but you will not like that price either Blue Cross ins.
