That's called short term disability coverage, but as you already plan on having the surgery, it's too late now to get the coverage.
Hope you have some money in your savings account to live off of. |

Since you already know you need surgery - you will probably have a very hard time finding any company to give you a disability policy. They already know you are going to use it very soon. |

Most disability policies pay only if you are out due to accidental injury, but if you purchase certain hospital indemnity policies, they will sometimes have an income clause that pays you a certain amount each day you're out of work. The problem is if you already know you're having surgery, they will want to see your medical records during the underwriting process. And, when they see that you're already set for surgery, they will probably either not issue the policy, or refuse to pay this claim. I AM a licensed insurance agent who only writes insurance part time, so I can give you objective information if you want to email me. |

You can get a disability policy. It is much like a life insurance policy in that they ask you lots of questions about health and lifestyle choices. Usually there is a time-deductible, meaning it doesn't kick in right away. You can get short-term disability from the government, but it is a hit-n-miss kind of thing. ONly pays 75% of what you make at best. |
