stephanieschulte | Does anyone no where I can get help to pay medical bills? |
Unfortunitly I losed my medical coverage on 6/30/07 and was told I would be able to enroll in another program but that was a lie and then I was in the ER on 7/15/07 and I don't have any insurance. My medical bills are up to 3,000 at the moment and their will be more. Does anyone know of where I can get help to pay for these bills or am I just plain out of luck? I have applied for Quest and they wont help with my medical bills and my case is still pending. I appreciate if anyone has good advice. I only make 200-400 a month and I have a 4 yr old daughter to support I am going crazy and feel I am 10 feet in the ground. Please any advice will be greatly appreciated Additional Details I do work part time and I am also a full time student. The minimun payment the hospital will except is $150 per month or they will send it to collections. |

If the coverage that you had until 6/30 was part of a group plan (for example, if it was from work and you lost your job), you still have a few days left before the deadline to elect COBRA, which is retroactive to the day of the event that caused you to lose coverage, so you will owe July and August premiums, but the bills will get paid.
Otherwise, look into government programs like Medicaid and whatever your state has. I do not know much about these because I make too much to qualify, but you make less than 5000 per year, so you should qualify. |

call the hospital and see if they are associated with any grants....
i've done that before with my sons medical bills!
they just don't announce it or everyone will try it :) |

Look into welfare and food stamps. Also talk to the hospital and explain your situation--most will be able to help you out, even if it's juts to set up a monthly bill. |

Find out if there is an advocate for patient rights and dump it in her lap or talk to them in billing about grant (s) info and apply. |

Some hospitals have medical assistance you need to ask a social worker at the hospital. Also apply for Medicaid they pay retoactively for 3 months. If the hospital is only willing to accept $150 send them what you can afford a month or a week, make sure you keep all the receipts for payments and if they still send it to collections continue to pay through the collection agency. As long as you are paying and can prove that you have been it won't look to bad on your credit.
Good luck! |

I understand how you feel! I have had three surgery's since last November and sometimes I wish that I could trade work for services. Check with your county welfare department. I know it is hard but you can go back three months for the hospital bills. Do it before it is too late. Also just keep paying them. Even if it $10 per week. You will prove that you want to pay your bills and keep a good record of the money sent. Also many hospitals can offer financial assistance. (Been there - done that )
Good luck! Keep going to school, so that some day you can have a great job and not have to worry about this kind of situation! * Also where I live we have a program called WIC- Women Infant and Children - it helps with the food bill. |

No one is going to cover you retroactively. I hope the issue was an accident and not an illness, or you're going to have a VERY hard time getting anyone else to insure you.
Call the hospital billing department, ask them to reprice your services down to a cash price.
But your REAL problem is an income problem. NO ONE can live off of $4800 a year ($400 a month). You need to do SOMETHING. You're talking right now, working 7 - 15 hours a week. NO ONE can live off of that. Heck, flipping burgers full time would get you $1,000 a month ( maybe more, and maybe health insurance too), and if you don't have someone to watch your daughter, you can do daycare and make that EASILY. |
