Yes. There's a little blurb right above where you signed the initial application, that basically says you give them the right to investigate just about anything and everything related to the property covered. They can even interview your neighbors.

Absolutely not. The worst they could do is give you notice (i think 12 hours is the minimum) that they want to take a look to make an estimate of the property that is covered. But they almost never do this. |

Insurance inspectors can come out and do an exterior inspection without your knowledge at some point. Some folks lie about their homes to get homeowners insurance, so an inspector follows up to get the details to manage adequate documentation.
Example: An insured may state they have no ferocious dogs on the property, but when an inspector comes out and finds one in a fence, this can cause your policy to become null and void if you do not sign a waiver about the ferocious pet. Insurance companies are not dummies when it comes to coverage. They are out to cover themselves(in court, due to the suits filed against them) as well. |

They must get your permission.
If you don't grant permission, they will readjust your premium (almost always upward) based upon their observation from the street.
They have to have access to assure that the insured property is as it was described in the application. If you say on the application you have no pool (lower insurance risk), but you do have one and someone drowns, you could be denied coverage. |
