Will my boyfriend's insurance plan cover our baby? |

Is it through his job? If it is, he can add her when she is born. If she's already born, you have 30 days to add her, or you have to wait until the next "open enrollment" time. Whenever that is.
He'll probably need a copy of her birth certificate to prove he's the father, or a court order.
If it's a PRIVATE policy, there's a good chance he can't add her. He'll have to call the number on the back of his card and ask. |

Interesting you should ask that question, since I'm working on dependent eligibility audits for a few large employers right now. lol
If this is an employer group plan and the employer offers family coverage as an option to its employees, then you shouldn't have a problem.
That said, your boyfriend will have to prove 2 things (either to add the baby to the policy or in the future if there's an audit done):
1) proof of parentage (easiest way to do this is by having his name on the birth certificate, of course)
2) proof of financial dependency (couple of ways to do this - if your boyfriend claims the baby as a dependent on his taxes, proving that your boyfriend resides at the same address as the child)
Your boyfriend can also provide a QMCSO as documentation (Qualified Medical Child Support Order) to his employer. http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/publications/qmcso.html
As long as you can document that he's the baby's father and that the baby is financially dependent on him, you shouldn't have a problem w/an employer group plan. |

If (1) it is legally his child (according to the birth certificate or a child support order) and his dependent (for tax purposes) and (2) his health insurance covers his children, then yes, but it will not cover you. If you split, and you get custody, then I am not sure. If you list on the birth certificate that someone else got you pregnant, then probably no, even while you are together. If this heath insurance is an individual policy that does not cover children (even for married persons), then definitely no. |

They should - the baby would be considered his dependent. |

Yes, most group health plans would allow coverage for dependent children.
As long as the dependent is monetarily dependent upon the employee for support, they can be covered under the policy. |

If your boyfriend's insurance allows coverage for dependents, your baby can be covered whether you are married or not. He should check with his Human Resources department to find out how to go about enrolling the baby for coverage. |
