Does health insurance cover self-inflicted wounds?
Do health insurance companies cover the hospital fees for self-inflicted wounds like cuts or burns?

Move on
Some. You have to check your policy. Ours does as well as holistic medicine, acupuncture, and massages.

ummmmmmmm I think so- but dude. Don't do that. It's the only body you have regardless of the cost, cut and burn something else.

Health insurance will cover anything that is defined within your plan. If you self hurt and then go to the hospital to be treated it will be covered. Obviously I wouldn't recommend ever hurting yourself. Life insurance, however, may not be paying if the death was due to suicide or recklessness. Completely different issue though.

Yes, but dont try to say that they arent self inflicted, b/c nurses and doctors can tell. If you are a minor and go to the ER with cuts that need stitches or a "suicide attempt" you will be sent to a mental hospital for evaluation / counseling- mandatory- no choice. It is covered under accidental and most insurance policies cover substance abuse and mental help facilities. Cutting is no a healthy way to deal with problems or get attention. The time it took to ask this question one could be asking a trusted loved one for help.

Zam
Yes. Falls under accidents.

Only if you tell them you did it intentionally. Just stop that and get help ok, physically and mentally. It will be ok.

Insurance will not cover self inflicted wounds done on purpose although they might help pay for your psychotherapy - which you need if you are hurting yourself on purpose

Insurance covers accidents...

Possibly, if you are diagnosed with a psychiatric illness.

Ask your insurance provider.

Mary W
Maybe if it's a mental health issue.

Michael H
no not unless someone else hits you.. if you get in an accident then you have to pay more money and get a better insurance.. but yes they can pay for it.

If you cut or burn yourself on purpose NO but it's kind of hard to tell unless your a complete idiot.

student182001
just say it's an accident, not self inflicted. They should cover it.

abizzell4hire
No, but they will raise your rates if it happens too often.

Just don't tell them they're self-inflicted.
