crappa | Does home owners insurance cover rotted wood siding.? |
We bought our home in 2004 and there was some rot on the wood siding. We were offered 3000 dollars from the seller and a stainless steel refrigerator. The home inspection didnt have a dollar amount for the siding. I just got an estimate to have the siding replaced and it was for $24000.... Does anyone know if homeowners insurance covers this sort of thing? |

Rotted siding is a maintenance issue, and is not covered by any insurance on your home. The time to have gotten the estimate for the replacement was BEFORE you agreed to buy the property. Then you would have known that the cash offer with the refrigerator was woefully inadequate.
Sad to say, this is an expense you will have to bear out of your own pocket. |

No, rot is specifically excluded from all policies.
You have to figure in the cost to repair, with the purchase price of the home.
Homeowners insurance is for sudden, accidental issues, it's not a maintenance contract - it's up to you to do the maintenance stuff. |

No - that is not damage, it is ordinary wear and tear. You might want to consider some other exterior finish rather than replacement-in-kind. |

probably not and it was an existing condtion when you bought the house so it wouldn't pay for repairs anyway - rotten wood is due to weather and aging - nothing that insurance would cover |

more than likely they would not cover it since it was there at the time of purchase and rot is caused by not properly maintaining the home. |

Replacing siding would be like replacing the roof. Its an issue of maintenance, not damages. |

Would you please stop asking this same question over and over in slightly different ways? |

I never say never, but I would be greatly surprised if it did. Normal wear and tear is almost never included in insurance policies.
Having said that, I suggest you check your policy and talk to your agent. |
