Does homeowner's insurance cover a clean up after suicide?
I have a friend who's son killed himself in her home, will her homeowner's insurance cover getting her home back to normal?

Yes it should. I had a client who had a son severly injure himself in the home and the insurance paid for the loss to the carpet and flooring and also to repaint the walls from all the blood.

If she has been with the company a long time in situations like these claims adjusters are generally very good. It does however depend on the company.

Yes, it should. Most homeowner policies will provide coverage to pay for the cleanup of this type of loss. Tell your friend to file a claim with her insurance company to start the process. Her insurance company can recommend haz mat companies in the area that can assist with the cleanup. There are firms that specialize in such losses. Look under Hazardous Materials in the yellow pages. If your friend can't wait on the insurance company, tell her to call the Haz Mat company direct.

I had a friend who had to clean up after a relative. Talk about making a traumatic experience worse!

not sure about the insurance, but worth a try to submit a claim and find out. The worse they can say is no.

To clean up the mess, call ServPro (not sure of spelling). It is a franchise company that restores homes and does clean up work after fires, floods, pollution cleanup and such. They may be able to do this as well.

My brother-in-law had the same happen to him last year when his wife blew her head off. Insurance paid for the initial clean up and repairs. That was Idaho, you would have to look into your own state laws.

Not if he's a resident of the household. Sorry.

Pastor Chad from JesusFreak.com
Paying for cleanup should be the least of her worries. What she needs more than anything is emotional and spiritual healing, not worrying about cleaning house. Please encourage her to talk to her pastor or to a trained counselor to help her cope with her grief. The link below has crisis-hotline numbers she can call if she needs to talk to someone. I'll be praying for her as well. If I can help in any way, my e-mail address is chad@jesusfreak.com.
