Does hommeowner's insurance cover burglary loss?
If someone's house gets broken into and items such as jewelery, clothes and money stolen would the insurance cover the loss? I was wondering due to Paris Hilton getting $1.5 mil of her jewelery robbed recently from her home and wondeirn if her insurance would pay her out for it.
Additional Details
But it's hard to believe anyone would leave that much worth of jewelery lying around and not locked up in a safe especially if they have housekeepers, guests and people coming in/out of their house. Doesn't add up in my opinion.

The standard homeowners policy does cover burglary, but has limits of coverage for certain things like jewelry. So unless she paid extra for jewelry coverage, they're going to cover about $2,000 of it.

For that much jewelry you have to take out a separate personal articles policy. You better believe she has one too. You have the give the insurance company appraisals on your jewelry for jewelry worth that much and for that much insurance on it.

~~Insurance covers to a certain amount for these types of items. However, when you have over the limit in value of art, jewelry, etc., then you have to add coverage for these amounts. I'm sure they were well insured. Sad thing is, if there is sentimental value attach to anything, you can't get that back.

when the average person gets home owners insurance yes it covers burglary of anything in the home.i guess it depend on how much and what type of insurance she has.usually when you have jewelry with a large value it is insured separately.

Emasculated Britain
These things are covered by CONTENTS insurance. The house itself is covered by BUILDINGS insurance.

Sad Spirit, Home insurance covers lots of different things. I'm not familiar with all the fine print of my homeowners policy, but my homeowners insurance agent is always a phone call away. Try calling your agent or a homeowners agent in your city. http://www.easyhomeinsuranceguide.com They will be able to help you.
