Does it make any sense that a child should be rated as uninsurable?
I have a child with ashtma, and two years ago her father, quite his job with no warning, he stopped paying child support and her insurance ended. I found out in December she had no insurance, my employer only allowed November sign ups, so I went to get private insurance, and was told no company would take her because she had asthma. I tried getting state insurance, but they said no because my employer offered insurance, even thought I was looking at it being 11 months before I chould start a policy. Not to mention I was making $7 an hour, and am college educated, my employer charged 68-80 a week for insurance. I was already doing overtime to feed myself and my kids.
I wish the law makers, could sit in a hospital bathroom and cry wondering, if they can pay the rent, buy the medication, and all this with having to miss a day's wages, because the light of there life has ashtma. That court order for suport and insurance, is a nice tissue to dry those tears because that is all it is worth

Yeah, that sucks. Most insurance companies wont accept pre-existing conditions. The only thing I can tell you is that you can go to this website and I hope it works for you. Best of luck to you and your children.

Her father quit his job 2 years ago, and you just found out this December that she doesn't have insurance? You must be leaving some details out here, because that just doesn't add up.

When exactly did her insurance end? 2 years ago, or in December? If it ended in December, losing her coverage is a qualifying event and your employer should have been able to add her as a result of that...even though your open enrollment was in November.

If it ended 2 years ago and you just happened to find out in December, then you're partially to blame for not keeping better track of her coverage. You stated above that she's on medication - how did you not notice that her coverage dropped?

Also, I have a hard time believing that she couldn't get a private policy if asthma is the only thing wrong with her. You must be leaving something else out.

What you said above just doesn't add up. Either you left out a lot of information, or you're making up some sort of sob story. Sorry for being skeptical, but either your daughter lost her coverage in December (in which case your employer could have added her due to a qualifying event), your daughter lost coverage ages ago (in which case you share some of the blame for not paying more attention), or this whole thing is fictitious.

There should be plenty of plans to choose from if the only problem is that your child has asthma. Some policies may issue a rider on the plan and not cover the asthma, but there should be health insurance policies that you could get that cover every thing else for less than $75 with co payments.

It depends on which state you live in that will determine which plan is best for you. Assurant health has good plans for youth. You can get quotes and apply online from links here http://www.thackeragency.com . I have another page that would not fit your needs as well, but the least expensive type of plan is a short term plan and you can apply at http://www.short-termhealthinsurance.com .

Contact an agent in your state. There should be lots of options for you. I would be happy to answer questions for your specific situation.

Her asthma must be pretty bad if she's unratable. Most asthmatic kids ARE insurable.

The bad guy here isn't the insurance company, it's her father, you realize that, right?

Unless she's hospitalized for her asthma several times a year, I'd guess that whoever told you she can't get private insurance, was inaccurate. I'd go to another local, independent broker and get a second opinion. Or third.

Now, it's likely going to exclude COVERAGE for the asthma, because of the uninsured period. But again, that's her father's fault - not the state's, not the government's.

Now if she's on a basic albuterol rescue inhaler, see if that's on the $4 list at Target. Or print out the $4 list, and bring it to your doctor, and ask what's on it, that your daughter could use. Ask them for office samples of the Advair, or whatever preventative inhaler they have. And contact the drug companies to see if you can get on their program for low cost/free meds for her asthma.

i think that it is bull crap. no child should ever be rated uninsurable. its not like they can go out, and take care of themselves. what is the point of insurance if certain people who really need it like your child cant get covered? i am so sorry for everything that you have to go threw with this. i have had asthma my whole life, and that isn't something you really want to play around with especially with a kid. they are putting your kid at more risk by not covering them.

Have you looked into the discount health benefits? No one is denied because of on-going health problems. It is different then Ins because you have no co-pays, deductables to meet etc. Also it is a lot cheeper a month for a family to have. If hospital visits are something that you and your daughter deal with as well make sure that they have a hospital advocacy program as well. You can go to www.everyonebenefits.com/trodgers for more info.

hope that helps!
