Kennith J | Does it make since to pay a 500 dollar deductible before getting a basic exam ? |
|

It depends upon your policy. The good policies have preventive care and doctor visits that are not subject to the deductible. This means all you pay is the co-pay without first meeting the deductible.
In your case it sounds like you have to pay the deductible first before the co-pays kick in. The insurance companies negotiate with the doctors the payment for each procedure. You will have to pay that negotiated cost of your exam. The amount you pay probably won't be $500 but whatever you do pay will go toward the deductible. You'll want to call your agent for a better explanation on your particular policy. |

What do you mean by "basic exam"? A routine physical?
On many medical plans, routine services are not subject to deductible. A co-payment covers the entire service, up to a yearly dollar amount maximum.
Many other medical plans waive the deductible for routine services.
I guess the answer to your question really depends on a couple of things - what do you mean when you say "basic exam", and what kind of medical coverage do you have? |

Well, you don't pay it before. YOu pay for the exam. The cost of the exam counts, towards your deductible. |
|

I got answers!
|
No, it does not. Check on what an office visit will cost you for that exam. It is surely cheaper than the $500 deductible. |

The cost of the basic exam will be applied towards the deductible. If the cost is less than $500, you will only need to pay that cost. You should ask the dr what the cost is so that you are prepared to pay that. Also be aware that if there are any x-rays or labwork, you will also have to pay the lab and the x-ray technition. The providers will bill your insurance and once the costs are considered, you will recieve a bill. Once you meet the $500 deductible, your insurance will begin to pay whatever benefit level you purchased (e.g. 75% of charges) until you meet your out of pocket amount (again whatever you purchased e.g. $5,000 in benefits or $1,250 out of pocket). |

I do not know what kind of insurance you have but I do not want to be anywhere near it. You are getting screwed in the worst way. Drop your current insurance, and contact the better business bureau |
