You are covered immediately from the time you make your first payment. That is no problem.
However, someone spilling paint on your sofa is not a covered loss under renters or homeowners insurance. It covers fire and theft.
Call your agent and they will tell you. |

Im assuming you have a renters or homeowners insurance.
You will NOT be covered for that. That is called "negligence" in insurance language. Your policy will only cover you for fire/hazard.
If it was one of the perils that you would have coverage for however, time wouldnt matter. Only guideline is that there can be no pre-existing damage to your article at the time of writing the policy. |

car253 is right, it is probably not a covered cause of loss anyway. You should check your policy to be sure, before filing a claim. |

if its a covered loss they will pay out minus your deductible. it is very early after writing your policy to make a claim, and it will raise a red flag with your company. if its a small claim you may not want to claim this. the more claims you get the more likely they will non renew your policy. |
