Morsmorde | Does the value of a vehicle affect the insurance that you pay on it??? |

The year, make & model of the vehicle affect the comprehensive & collision premiums (& also possibly the liability & med pay premiums - ABS, airbags, etc). The current value of the vehicle has no bearing on the premiums unless it is worth little, you have no loan & decide to have liability coverage only. If you have comprehensive & collision, all else being equal, whether the current value is $5,000 (high mileage, a lot of wear & tear) or $10,000 (mint condition, low mileage, etc), the premiums would be the same. On the same note, 2 cars with the same current value could have a completely different premium. At the time of a covered loss, you would receive the actual cash value of the vehicle (condition & mileage are taken into consideration here) less your deductible. |

Yes, but it isn't the only factor. Other factors include the engine displacement (4 cyl vs. 8 cylinder) and the type of unit (4wd vs. sedan). Rating models for vehicles are rather complex and proprietary and include a number of items in addition to the overall value of the unit. |

Yes. The higher the value of the vehicle, the more you will pay. A more expensive vehicle usually means more expensive repairs which means more costly collision coverage. |

In general more expensive cars generate higher comprehensive and collision premiums. However, other factors such as how often the car is involved in accidents and how well the car fares in an accident also have an impact. A new Ford Explorer can cost less to insure than a new Chevy Cobalt because the Explorer will usually sustain less damage relative to it's value than a smaller car like the Cobalt. Also, if a car is popular among higher risk drivers (like sports cars are with people who drive fast) that can drive up the premiums too. |

Yes, for collision/comprehensive and UI coverage. |

Sort of, sometimes.
Vehicles are rated based on "symbols". The higher the symbol, the more expensive the vehicle to insure, on an actual cash value basis. More expensive vehicles have higher symbols. Sometimes, an expensive car (like a Volvo station wagon, symbol 5) will have a lower symbol than a less expensive, fast car (like a Ford Mustang Convertible, symbol 19).
Then, instead of a standard, actual cash value policy, you might have a stated amount policy or agreed value policy - in which case, you state the amount of coverage up front, and the rates are based on the amount of coverage. |
