kyojo | Does your homeowners insurance company pay for roof leaks? Are they the right ones to call? |

Only if the roof leak is caused by sudden damage, like a tree branch putting a hole in your roof.
If the roof is just old, and wearing out, it's not covered - it's up to you to fix the roof.
You should probably call a roofer. If this was damage, you'd see a hole in your roof, or shingles blown off the roof or something like that. |

Only if the cause of the roof leak is covered by your insurance. You will need to 1) know what has cause the leak and 2) read your policy (or contact your agent)
If the leak is due to the roof being old, then it is a maintenance issue and not covered by insurance. |

If a tree fell on it and the damage caused the leak yes. It it is leaking because it is old, no |

only if they were caused by wind, falling trees and you have coverage. If it caused because you need a new roof-NO |

Only, if your leak was caused by hail, storm damage, etc., if it is a maintenance issue, then no. Always remember, after a storm, to check your property and report damage. If your roof was damaged for instance by a storm, a year or so ago, you're probably out of luck.
Also, after damage has been done, get estimates for the repairs. Depending on your deductible, and claim history, sometimes, it is cheaper in the long run, to pay it yourself. |

Why is the roof leaking?
If it is because the roof is old, then no.
If something caused damage to the roof, then you will have to obtain a copy of your insurance policy and see if the cause of the damage is covered. Since pretty much all insurance policies are about as dry as desert sand, it is probably best to call your broker/agent and ask them in. Whatever you do, do it soon as a leaking roof needs to be taken care of ASAP! |
