At work yesterday I dropped a plastic thing on my foot. It was under 6 ounces and should not of done damage... My foot got badly bruised and my mom thought my toe was broken. We went to the doctor and was told to put a boot on it to demobilize it. That is all that happened. It cost us a total of 90 bucks and my dad wants to file workman's comp on it since it was work related. I say it was because of my own stupidity and should not waste our time or my managers time on it. I really do not want to cost my manager money in anyway shape or form. But I do not want to upset my dad by not filing it. I even offered to pay the bill out of my own paycheck, but he will not allow me to do that. What should I do? |

I agree with the above poster. You have to report the accident. Now I'm going to be overly dramatic, but I'm trying to make a point to you. Say for example now its just a broken toe and your out $90. But what if down the road your bone got infected, it spread and you had to have your foot amputated. That is not going to happen! But see the point I'm trying to make? Since you had never reported it at work, workman's compensation would not be liable for anything when they should be. We never know after one day what an injury is going to do.
However, let me tell you it was so refreshing to hear your question. Everyone else on here wants to know how much they could sue their company for when they break a toe. I don't think you should become rich off of this, but yes, you are entitled to have any medical bills covered by it. I wish there were more people in the world like you. |

Stupidity or not, if it happens at work, it's Workman's Comp. If it doesn't get reported, your boss and company can get in some trouble. |

I agree with the others above me. You got injured at work so they should pay the $90 medical bill. I'm sure forking out $90 isn't going to hurt your company much. Here in the UK, we fill in an accident book every time there is an injury at work, which is the law. |

The longer you wait before trying to file a comp claim, the more likely that the claim will be denied, and the harder it will be to actually collect on that claim.
You should tell your manager, and let the claim get filed. |
