Employers aren't required to offer health insurance at all. And if they choose to offer it, they aren't obligated to provide spouse/family coverage.
There should be clearly spelled out eligibility criteria in your policy. Check the Summary Plan Document/Certificate of Coverage - there will be a section entitled "eligibility." That will also spell out if spouses are ever eligible to be on your employer's benefit plan, and if so...what conditions do they have to meet to be eligible?
If your employer offers the option of spouse coverage, they do not have to contribute anything towards your wife's premium. They can pass the whole cost on to you. Check with your HR department if you have any questions about if spouses can be covered, and how much it will cost you. |

There is no requirement or law that an emplyer has to provide health insurance for you or your spouse. Check with your employer what benefits are available for your spouse. You may have to pick up the full cost of adding your wife. |

They are not required to offer it-but if they do, the cost is usually passed on to you. Check to see if they need further documentation from you (like a marriage certificate). It may have just been an oversight, but the sooner you contact them and find out the reason, the sooner the mistake will be corrected. |
