Hot C | Enterprise will not let me rent a car!not on insurance policy? |
I was using my mom cars which is in both of our names (to help me build credit) but the insurance is just in her name I am not on there anywhere, but the insurance people said as long as I was given permission to drive it I would be covered.Well on sunday i had the car and a lady cut through the parking lot and hit me in the side. The insurance was setting me up with a rental car to be paid for through the woman who hit me. I went to enterprise to get it and they said they couldn't let me get it because I wasn't on the insurance policy, but my insurance said that I could because i was a licensed driver and the insurance would be covered by the lady that hit me..... but enterprise says i can not get it ...any ideas Additional Details I am 22 , you have to be over 21... this is so frustrating |

There's a difference between being covered under an insurance policy for driving an owned auto - yours - and an unowned auto - Enterprise's.
You say that the car is in both of your names. If that's so then you should be the named insured on the policy. Your insurance company can easily add you as a named insured if you live with your Mom and are listed as a driver in the house, fax Enterprise a new ID card, then Enterprise will rent the car to you.
If you've not been listed on the policy in an attempt to save money and you do not live with your Mom and/or the insurance company didn't know you were a regular driver then you are going to have to have your Mom rent and drive the rental car and you'll need to borrow hers.
Insurance companies (like State Farm) will tell insureds that they cover anyone who is driving the car as long as they have the insured's permission as a way to cover incidental, very occasional use of the car by friends or visiting family members. Regular users of the car - and owners - must be specifically listed as drivers.
If you and your Mom both own the car and you are the primary driver then you should be listed as the named insured and your Mom should be listed as an additional insured. She cannot be a named insured unless you live together, but the additional insured endorsement would give her the coverage she needs.
I know insurance is expensive, especially for young drivers, but this is what happens when people try to circumvent the rules. And if you don't live in the house with your Mom your may not have coverage under some portions of your Mom's policy that only cover "resident relatives".
Best of luck!

when I was in a car axident and got a rental I had a choice of either using my insurance or taking out a 5 day policy thru the rental car place which was only another 15 dollars or so. I chose to use my insurance but I dont see whey they can not offer you insurance thru them. I know your insuance says you are covered but since they are giving you a hard time take insurance thru them and have that the persons insurance that hit you pay for it. |

Your mom's car insurance will not cover you on the rental car because you are not on her policy. They will cover you if you drive her car but not the rental car. Only listed drivers are covered if they drive a rental car or borrow a car.
They will pay for the rental car but the auto insurance will not carry over to the rental car because you are not a listed driver.
So, buy their insurance. |

Yep, Enterprise won't rent to someone who doesn't have an insurance policy.
That policy, won't cover YOU when you drive an unlisted car (the rental car). You aren't the insured, you're just a permitted driver.
Your "insurance" is wrong.
You either need to rent from Hertz, and buy the extra insurance (which will NOT be covered under the other person's insurance), at about $75 a day total, or have the rental car used by your MOM, and you drive your mom's car. |

I rent from Enterprise a lot for work, so I've been standing at the counter a number of times when somebody in your situation comes in to pick up a car. They call the insurance company to verify the coverage and determine the charges, so if they're not giving you a car its likely that one person at your insurance company is telling you that you're covered and somebody else at your company is telling them that you're not. Ask the person who says you are covered to call them and give them the okay. The other possibility is that they need to be calling the other woman's company, not yours. After all, the company isn't telling you that they are going to pay for the car - they're telling you that her company will pay for the car. In either case, I would call the person who said that the car is covered and ask them how to fix this. |

You have to have your mother get the car and then you can drive it.
Enterprise is worried they will not be reimbursed for the rental.
Are you over 25? I don't believe they will rent a car to anyone under 25 either. |
