I live in MN and my family has First Plan Blue( for low income), it has a very good dental plan and it travels with me, my co pays are small. Or when I was working at this one job making OK money I had MN-care I was very Happy with that one to and might be going back to it. My monthly payments were about 23.00 for my daughter and I. Check them out.. Good luck, |

The best place to start is by doing what you’re doing now – asking for personal recommendations. I’d also check out Consumer Reports (link below), America’s Health Plans (link below), US News & World Reports Best Health Plans, and whatever other informational resources you can find. I’d also talk with locally licensed health insurance agents. I’ve also included a couple of articles about choosing a health plan that might be useful. They are government-authored, but they’re actually pretty good (all links below).
Three factors to consider when choosing a health plan are:
•Cost – this is not just the monthly premium because sometimes low premium plans end up costing more because you might not have access to doctors you need and these plans involve large deductibles.
•Access to health care – this is one way that managed care plans like HMOs keep costs down. It’s important to make sure that the health care providers you want are in your network of coverage.
•Financial strength of the insurance company.
Once you’ve decided what type of plan you want (HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, etc.), narrowed down the list of companies you’d like to work with, and decided whether you want a high-deductible/low premium plan or the reverse, check out MostChoice.com. You can compare plans, as with ehealthinsurance, but you will also be able to speak with multiple Minnesota insurance agents without any obligation. Tell them what you want and let them do the legwork for you. Remember that prices online aren’t any lower than those you can get through an insurance agent.

Hope this helps,

It’s crazy how much insurance companies are charging these days. And they’ve become so limited too that many times, you end up having to pay extra because they won’t cover what you need. There’s a company Ameriplan out there that provides discount health benefits for a very cheap monthly rate. It includes just about everything you can imagine at a savings up to 80%. There’s no deductible, claims forms, co-pays, limits or anything like that. You just go in and get the service you need and only pay a small fraction out of pocket. When you consider how much you are shelling out a month on insurance premiums and then all the additional fees and limits, this can be a much more affordable way to go. I have their dental package, but I know they have a medical package as well that includes the dental as well as vision, prescription and chiropractic benefits for less than $60 for an entire family. It includes just about everything, and a lot of things that most insurance won’t even cover like cosmetic surgery and braces. I love them and I know a lot of people have saved several thousand dollars by using Ameriplan. They have over 100,000 providers and 2 million people using their benefits. And they’re registered with the BBB. Here’s the website: http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/40424269/. This might be a good alternative for you. I think you will be quite impressed. Good luck to you. And feel free to email me with any questions. I hope you find what you need. |
