Full coverage on a 2004 Pontiac GrandAm, is it worth it?
I am currently paying for full coverage insurance on my vehicle but unsure if this is financially a good idea. My car is a 2004 Pontiac Grandam worth about $5,000 in Blue Book. Has good mileage (80,000) runs ok but not excellent and has a few bumps here and there aside from normal wear and tear. Your thoughts?

Can you afford to pay $5,000 for a new car, if you get hit by an uninsured driver, or if your car gets stolen? If so, then you don't need full coverage. If not, you need full coverage.

yea if you like the car and if the car is payed off I would see what it will cost you a year for full coverage compared to minimal coverage . Remember bullshit can happen anytime, I had a 2007 volvo s40 with only 20,000 miles on it for little over a month and some 73 old *** hit me doing 60mph and totaled my car and I am still in physical therapy and my medical bills have already got close to $100,000! So it is really up to you and where you live, if you live somewhere there is a lot of snow I would for the snowy months!

Two things to think about, 1. how much will collision and comprehensive coverage cost? and 2. could you afford to replace the car on your own if it were totaled or stolen?

For question one, if the coverage costs as much as the car in a year to a year and a half, then you're probably better off without it.

For number two, if you can't afford to buy a new car but you could swing the payments on collision/comp coverage, then forget about the answer to question one. You need the coverage.

If you're stuck and you really just have to make a judgment call based on your financial situation, go for comprehensive instead of collision and drive extremely carefully/defensively.

There are a few things to consider and ONE is are you a good driver. Two is there high auto thefts in your neighborhood.

If you're always getting into accidents & cars are being stolen left & right then you may want to keep the full coverage. You might want to consider taking higher deductibles (where you assume more of the risk, but pay less) as well as making sure that you have every possible discount available through that company.

If auto theft is low & you're a good driver you can potential save the money by dropping comp & collision.

If you havent' done so you may want to shop around for insurance; visit http://INeedHealthCareBenefits.com. They have sites available that will provide quotes for all types of insurance. You can submit a request for a quote with as many sites as you'd like.

Good luck to you
