momtosix | Geico-Progressive type of insurance companies...? |
Right now, we dont have either..We have a major carrier, but not one that carries alot in the hurricane areas..So, our rates are pretty darn good..(home, auto, life)What I would like to know is has anyone filed a claim with one of these major auto carriers and been happy with it? I am really leery to switch to something like them...Even if they were cheaper...Thanks |

Anne,
We've been with GEICO for 23 years (except for when we were stationed in Japan).
We had to file two auto claims, one when our conversion van caught fire, and one when my wife was in an accident.
Both times GEICO was outstanding. The claim for the fire was settled in four days and they sent our check overnight Fed-Ex. With the accident GEICO extended the rental car contract so we had the needed second car. They kept us informed of progress as well.
I couldn't be more pleased with GEICO's service and prices.

I am an independent insurance agent and one of the many companies I represent is Progressive (also known as Drive Insurance). My advice, if you do switch to a Geico or a Progressive policy use an agent so you have someone you can call if you have problems. That said, in my experience most claims my clients have had with Progressive have been handled in a decent manner, there is the occasional claim problem, but not anymore than other companies.
I don't deal with Geico, so I couldn't give an honest assessment. |

I would not go to a low rate carrier- just cuz they have low rates. They are notorious for unhappy customer service and claims-just saying...People might like that low monthly premium until something happens then that doesn't seem like much of a deal! |
|

???
|
Okay. Switch to a cheaper insurance company. See what happens when you try to file a claim. |

Wait, does that mean you want a high risk carrier, or a direct writer??
In my opinion, Progressive is better with first party claims than Geico. |

I've been an insurance agent for over a year and one of the Companies we write with is Progressive. They handle their claims very quickly, sometimes in less then 24 hours! |
