There's no way for you to get the answer to all of these questions in advance.

You can find out your benefit levels from your insurance company - there is no one magic number for all of United Healthcare. It depends on the specific policy that the your/your husband's employer negotiated.

The insurer will be able to give you general information such as what percentage you'll be liable for, if you have a deductible, etc.

However, this will still not tell you what you'll be liable for in terms of total dollar amount. There are too many variables at hand for that - will you end up having a vaginal delivery? Or will you end up needing to have a c-section (which is 2-3X more expensive, btw)? Will you have an uncomplicated pregnancy, or will you be high-risk? (Thus having more prenatal appointments and possibly more medical intervention at birth.) Will your baby be born healthy or will he/she need to spend some time in the NICU? Etc. All of these factors affect the total charges, which then affect the amount you may be liable for out of pocket.

You're not going to be able to nail down an accurate dollar amount before your baby is born, unfortunately. However, your OB/GYN's office may be able to give you a ballpark estimate of what their charges will be. You may be able to find out what the hospital's ballpark charges are for a general, uncomplicated delivery. But this still won't tell you how much you'll end up being liable for, as it all depends upon what happens throughout your pregnancy/delivery.

Call your insurer to get your general benefit levels. Ask your doctor and hospital for an idea of what their general charges may be. Just don't rely too heavily on those estimates, because its hard to predict how much it will cost you.

you could call your ins company. the number should be either on front or back of the card.
some ins plans are different.

That is policy specfic. No one on this site can answer that for you. You typically pay 1 copay for doctor and a copay for hospital but it varies from policy to policy.

After birth of baby you have 30 days to add her to your coverage. She/He will be covered from birth

It depends on your policy, and how much it pays. United healthcare has about 150 different insurance plans - at least 3 in every state. They are not STANDARD, and many do not include maternity coverage.

If it covers maternity, it could be anywhere from 50% to 100%. 80% is pretty typical. For a normal birth, which normally costs about $8000 including anesthesia and prenatal care, well, you can figure out from your coinsurance percentage. If you need a C section, budget for $15,000.

Once the baby is born, you have 30 days to add her to your policy, retroactive to her date of birth.

Its in your policy under maternity. Most of the time it will say you have a copay for inpatient hospital then you'll have a co insurance for the rest of it. It can range anywhere from 10-30% of the total cost. Make sure you use a network provider and speak with the hospital about setting up payment plans before you go into labor. Go to a community or general hospital in your area-they are more open to helping you and possibly even writing off the remaining balance.

How could anyone here answer these questions? Ask the insurer what is covered. Ask the hospital and doctors what their charges are.

The only way you can find out that information is by calling your insurance company and speaking with member services. We have no way of telling you what your copay or coinsurance will be without looking at your plan benefits which we don't have access to. Call member services, that's what they're there for.
