Texas homeowners insurance policies generally suck. Most companies write a very limited form, except for State Farm, which writes a slightly less limited form, and charges you through the nose. Me, I took the State Farm policy.
They all base rates on your credit score, and if you currently have unrepaired damage or a pit bull or trampoline, good luck finding ANYONE to take you.
Having said that, insuranceman here on YA has an agency North Houston, send him an email. Or you can check with www.usi.biz, they do homeowners, they're near I10 and the beltway. |

I would find an Agency that is not a 'direct writer' like State Farm or Allstate, meaning that they can only 'write' policies with one Company. They have very limited opportunities to shop around for you and find firstly the best coverage and secondly the best premium.
Find an Agent who has Safeco, Travelers, Hartford, Kemper they will be hundreds of $$ cheaper and with much better coverage.

I was able to get a good deal from a major home owner insurance provider (state farm...) at a much better rate than any local agent could quote me. Seriously, stay away from local agents, they are going to try and increase their commission every chance they get. |

The most reputable nationally are Farmers, Allstate, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, and State Farm. I bet there are local agents in your town you can contact. |
