I originally wasn't going to get insurance with my company then i did, but didn't recieve a card. the benefits manager called me back with this info, i faxed her my social security number so she could clear it. i recently got updated credit reports from all three agencies so my credit hasn't been tampered with (that is reported yet). what else should i do to protect myself?

let me clarify. bcbs has someone with my social security number already getting benefits, I am not sure if it is within the company i work for. there has been no clerical error on the benefit mgrs part, she said she repeated it back to them several times then she repeated it to me and all info was correct. I have put a fraud alert on my credit report. |

it is good you put the fraud alert on your credit report, and you should contact the SS office
BUT
maybe the insurance company made a mistake and miskeyed the first person's SSN, and it happened to be yours. something similar happened to me. I received a notice in the mail that my surgery charges had been paid. I never had surgery. There was another woman with my name (at a different employer who had the same insurance), and the claims processor put her claim on my account.
**Ask your insurance company to pull the enrollment forms for this other person and verify his/her SSN from the original documentation.
I hope it is just a clerical mistake for you! |

I have recently found this company called LifeLock that the owner puts his SSN number on the web page. I looked at the site and the insurance costs $10 a month and has a lot of benefits. I will be signing up on the 1st. Its easier to afford the $10 a month than the $10,000 in bills a crook can run up.

contact the credit agencies and tell them you want a fraud alert put on your account. This way no one can get credit in your name because the credit agencies will report the alert to any one looking to give you credit and they will have to contact you first - It's more red tape for you but well worth the peace of mind.
Also, contact your local social security office and alert them. It's also a good idea just to file a police report for your records incase any frauds do happen. |

This seems really odd--that your SSN is being used by somebody inside your company? Sounds like it could be a clerical error in your company benefits office. For certain, thery should be able to track who it is and you can then determine how and why? |

You need to contact the insurance company directly and advise them of this. Don't count on anyone else straightening this mess out for you. |
