This is a home Insurance content question for a home burned in the santa barbara fire. Insurance is actual cash value, meaning they will deduct for depreciation.
1st. is there somewhere i can find the depreciation for content items so i can submit my claim with depreciation?
2. Can we send partial content lists and will they pay us as we submit, or does it get paid when the list is complete....any suggestions would be appreciated.
3. is there anyway to make this overwhelming task any easier - besides buying software. We are doing it in a spreadsheet, started out with a software program but it had more info than we had.
4. There is coverage for the plants, what category does that fall under in the coverage? contents or other structure.

mztaryn, Home insurance covers lots of different things. I don't understand all the details of my homeowners policy, but my home insurance agent is always a phone call away. Try contacting your agent or a homeowners agent in your area. http://www.easyhomeinsuranceguide.com They should be able to help you. |

No. 1 List the contents you lost and the price new and the age. I realize that the policy has depreciation but the adjuster will figure the actual cash value from this info. No. 2 Most companies prefer a complete contents list, if you have Loss Of Use on your policy you might ask for an advance if you need clothes or other necessities. No. 3 It is too bad you did not make photos of the interior of the home. It makes it easier to remember all of the things you had. Sorry, I have no advice on this one. No. 4 Plants are normally a very limited item on an insurance policy, sometimes a 500.00 limit sometimes a little more. Check the policy language closely, plants should be addressed in the policy language . Sorry for your loss. |

1. No. You submit the cost new, and the insurance company will depreciate it.
2. They will probably want you to submit the full list at one time.
3. Do it room by room. Get pictures out from holidays, parties, etc. There's no easy way, it's a tedious task.
4. Plants are contents. |

your company adjuster should be able to help you understand the depreciated value they are paying you. they should also wok with you on submitting list of items over time as needed. most people cannot remember everything they had off the top of their heads and the adjuster should work with you on this. depending on what form you were written will tell if you if plants are covered. talk to your adjuster...that's what they are there for. |

Every company has it's own process. How I handle things for my company may not be the way your company does things.
Call the adjuster handling your claim and ask them. They will be more than glad to help you. |
