Caren B | HELP! I sugned up for health insurance through another website.I received an email notification that my credit |
card payment was processed and then a few weeks later then sent me an email stating that my payment was declined. By this time I had already used my insurance and they paid the claims. I do not have the money to pay them now. What will happen? Will they sue me or even worse jail me since the insurance company paid my claims but my payment unsuccesfully wasnt processed for premium? |

1. contact your credit card company to confirm if the payment was ever processed. If it was processed, get a copy of the statement and contact the insurer for resolution, if it was not processed, see below.
2. The insurance will not come back to you for claims incurred, but will rather send the provider a statement that the claims should not have been paid. the provider will reimburse the insurer for the benefits they were paid then will come to you for the balance. You can get a jump on this by contacting the provider to explain the situation and to arrange a billing plan. By doing this, you have proven that you are not reneging on the signed contract and you want to stay out of collections. |

The insurance company won't pay the claims. If the money has already been paid, they will take the payment back from your medical providers.
Your medical providers will bill you for the full charges of your services. (When this happens, you may want to call them and ask if they give a discount for uninsured people.)
The insurance company won't sue you...the insurer won't be out any money, because they can always get the money back from the medical providers. However, your medical providers will likely take you to collections if you don't pay when they bill you. |

They will rescind the claims and your policy will cancel. That's about all that will happen, most likely.

No, they'll ask for the claims payment back from whomever they paid (usually the provider), then the provider will bill you for the services. It'll be like you never had coverage (which you didn't). |

You'd better contact the company's customer service people! |

Well, you don't get jail time unless you knew the paymetn wouldn't go through.
Insurance usually doesn't pay that fast - likely, if htey haven't paid, you'll get hte bill from your medical provider.
In either case, they can both sue you and attach your wages, for anything you should have paid, and didn't - or for reimbursement of bills. |

i highly doubt the insurance company will sue you or prosecute, what will probally happen is you might be billed for that actual cost.... sometimes if you cannot financially afford the services... your healthcare provided might have a discount for those with low income.... otherwise if not and you cannot pay the bill it will just get sent to collections which isn't the best for your credit... but alot of times if it is sent to collections they will try to work something out with you even if it means settling for much less than the actual cost. for instance, i have had a few bills go into collection due to some hard time and low income and they have always settled with me for much less than i actually owed, sometimes they will even accept half, but if you do enter into a pyment plan you need to make sure all payment are made upon the agreement date other wise they will cancel the agreement. |
