HELP ME!! URGENT!? =:( Please!!?
I've not had a car for a few days, and I've been driving my grandpas, well he found me a new car, and he's going to buy it for me (I'm going to pay him back) He's going out now to get the temporary tags on it. My problem is that I canceled my insurance policy the other day, but I still have my card. He needed it so I gave it to him. Are they going to run my insurance to give me the temp tags? Or will they just look at it and then issue the tags?
I live in WV.

They likely will not find out that you don't have a current policy in force, though the world is moving to instant access, so it's really not a great idea to do this...

That said you should immediately call your insurance agent and see if they will reinstate the policy to your new car. You will be driving without insurance, leaving you vulnerable if something were to happen.

A note to all those who will be without a car for a short period of time - it's usually best to keep the policy on the old car and get it transferred to the new car. You can often get a credit for time you had no car if you shows proof of sale of the old and proof of purchase of the new...

Enjoy y our new car!!!

In most states, you must have an insurance policy in force before you can register the car and receive the tags. Call your insurance company to reinstate the policy, and you should not have a problem.

don't worry they won't run it. They will only make a copy and keep it on file. They only want to see if you have insurance or not. They don;t waste hier time calling to see if you cancelledyour policy or not.

good luck with your new car......

Call and get insurance. Do you want to get into a wreck on the first day and lose everything?

They wont check to make sure the policy is currently paid, but I am pretty sure when you sign, you are acknowledging the policy is paid and current.

Get your tags and make sure you do reinstate your policy. You do not want to be involved in an accident without it and end up losing your liscense and risk jail time and massive fines.

Whether he gets the tags is the listed of your problems. Presenting an insurance card for a policy that one knows has been cancelled is very much illegal. Either reinstate the policy before he tries to get the temporary tags or tell him not to use that card.

Bart M
Just reinstate the insurance.

I don't know where Art lives or what the rules are in WV, but in GA we have things called computers and they run the computer check and it will tell them if the insurance is in force or not. Better get the insurance back ASAP.
