HMO deductible for emergency room visit ?
The deductible for emergency room visits according to my HMO plan is $100. Even though I was only there for two hours I subsequently got three different bills in the mail. One from a lab for a blood test, one from a radiologist for x-rays and one from the hospital. All three bills are well over $100 each. Do I have to pay three different $100 deductibles because these are all three different service providers or am I only responsible for one $100 payment for one deductible since all three services were rendered during the same emergency room visit?

Thank you

Call your insurer and ask. No one here knows what your plan allows. You should have a book provided by your insurer that advises what is covered. You may very well wind up paying more than $100 out of pocket, it depends what your deductible or co-insurance is. Additionally, the doctor, radiologist, lab, etc. may all bill separately from the hospital. It's a terrible system! Good luck.

Depends on your plan documents. Normally they charge the $100 deductible only against the hospital's bill.

~~Call your insurance company. With an HMO insurance you normally are not charged separately for tests, etc., just you doctor visit. I am assuming you went to the emergency room designated by your primary doctor. If not, you could be liable for many extra charges.

There are some HMO policies that have implemented copays for tests but they are usually small fees. The only way you will know for sure (because each policy is so different), is to talk with your insurance company's customer rep. They can explain everything and tell you if it was billed correctly.

Make sure you question it as billing errors happen all the time. You need to know from your insurance company exactly what your responsibility is.~~

Check your plan provisions. Typically, the ER visit itself is a standalone charge. Any tests are separate charges.

Usually the deductible is for all services related to the er visit. Check your plan or call your benefits advisor if you have questions. Ancillary services like lab and er doctors sometimes don't get the insurance information, so if the deductible is indeed for one visit and not for individuals, you should contact them and make sure they have the correct information.
