Has anyone ever thought of getting a lot of life insurance to cover bills after death?
I mean literally? Economy is horrible. People can't find jobs, can't pay on loans and things. So when you can't pay, don't worry about it but always make sure you have the life insurance to cover everything just in case you die. If you literally don't have the money to pay your bills or no matter what you pay, people are still going to harrass you, sometimes you can't help but to hide and avoid. What is the purpose in talking to them if you have no money to pay.

It sounds bizarre but they will eventually get their money. Of course after I die. They will be paid in full. What do you think?

I know of several people that have been planning things like this for years. They want to make sure their family is well taken care of and doesn't have to rush back to work after they pass away.

One other thing to consider, when you pass away, it's great to have enough insurance to pay off your mortgage, but if you are a main or sole bread winner, how is your spouse supposed to afford to pay the bills and upkeep of that house? One of my now clients when through this. They had a huge house and he had mortgage insruance that paid out the debt. Unfortunately the power bills alone ate up her entire monthly paycheque and she had to sell the house and move anyway.

Who are you going to designate as your beneficiary? That party gets the insurance proceeds and doesn't have to pay your debts with it.

That is precisely one of the purposes of life insurance. You'll want to not only provide living expenses for those who depend on your income, but have enough to cover your debts.

Usually the "living expenses for loved ones" amounts to WAY way more than the "paying off creditors" portion.

My debts are jointly owned with my spouse, so I don't want my spouse having to deal with that.

If you're not married, not sure if your insurance beneficiary would care to pay off debts that are not held jointly in their name, though....they can do whatever they choose with the insurance proceeds.

My dad felt that urge...And took it out. He ended up dying young, but indeed all the bills were paid off at once, with over a hundred grand spending money after taxes, and no need to sell anything. That was even long before the credit crunch. Traveled a lot using the money.
