15 minutes | Has anyone had a bad experience with Geico? |

They say you can save 15% or more on insurance, but every time I get a quote, they want to charge me about $150 MORE than what I am currently paying. And yet they STILL keep offering to help me SAVE money on my insurance! They are idiots! |

I did!
A guy insured with them hit me... t-boned my car, dented in the passenger side doors and threw me against a window. Geico stated that it was 'minor accident', despite the fact that the damage to my car was just within a hundred bucks of them being able to total it out, and I dislocated five vertebrae in my back AND got whiplash. Yeah, real minor there. Anyway, my car got fixed just fine but I had to see a chiropractor to get my back realigned. I went there for about a month before I got this snippy call from the Geico claims adjuster saying "In your kind of accident, this amount of physical rehab is -outlandish-." I asked them if it meant they wanted me to stop going or something, and she said "No, I can't -legally- tell you to do that, but I also can't say that we're going to pay for all of this." I basically told her to bug off and finished up my therapy and when it came time for my bill to come due with the chiro, Geico offered me a settlement of half my bills, saying that they thought I was milking the benefit. I was so frustrated and since the bill was less than $5,000, I didn't want to get a lawyer involved. Talked to my insurance company (Nationwide), and they said that they would pay out for my injuries using Personal Injury Protection, and then they'd sue to get their money back so my bills would be fully paid. I mean, in the end it all got done, but now when I get quotes through other companies, they always make me get a statement from Nationwide about that accident to make sure it wasn't at-fault. Really, really sucked. |

I did. I always loved Geico but when I had an accident, it was very difficult to get the car fixed right. They finally paid but I was without my car for 3 months.
In spite of the fact that we had a bad experience we actually switched back to them because we were able to save over $500.00 per year over the Allstate rate we were paying. We figured that as long as we didn't have another accident for a couple of years, it may be worth the hassle. Plus, we're hoping that since Geico now has agents in actual offices, we can talk to a person this time.
Geico is nice because you can do almost everything online, including change your policy, and get your new quote. That's something you normally have to go to an agent for. |

I have had Geico for over 10 years and have been involved in 2 accidents. They respond quickly and are reasonable. No problems at all. |

YES!!!!!!!! Our insurance expired the month my brother died, so we forgot to pay it and drove around without insurance for a month before we realized it. We didn't have any accidents, tickets, nothing. My stepson was also on the policy. When we tried to reinstate our policy, they wouldn't do it unless we could prove my stepson had his own insurance. We told them he has his own vehicle now(when we tried to reinstate it) and wouldn't be driving our vehicles. I forgot why, but my stepson couldn't get proof, and it would have been about a week's wait before they reinstated our policy anyway. So we went to a local office and got Nationwide thru them. I will never go thru Geico again. I am a firm believer now that local agents are the way to go, because you have someone to bat for you when stupid things like this happens. We really don't pay any more than we were at Geico. Even if we were, I would much rather pay more money versus be treated like we are stupid. |
