Senior 09 | Have I been tricked into a contract? |
Ok I know in a lot of cases this would be considered my fault.
I'm getting ready for college and my goal is to make the football team. I wanted to be prepared for the tryouts so I signed up for a training facility. The personal trainer explained to me the costs and the things that they offer. However he never told me that me signing up was under a contract.
The first time attending the facility, the personal trainer was rushing me to sign a paper. I did not read the paper which turned out to be the contract, which was stupid of me, I know.
I started attending the facility for two months, and each month I was to pay 360 dollars. I realized it wasn't worth it, and it put me in a financial debt. With how the economy is right now, I really cannot afford it.
I tried to cancel my account, and that is when I was told I was in a contract, that I could not get out of until August of next year.
My account has been put in the negative because of this situation.
Is there anything that I can do??
Please I need help....I know I've made a BIG mistake... |

~~If you were under 18 when you signed, it isn't legal If you were over 18, it is binding.
The only thing I can think of is to ask to speak to the manager of the facility and explain the financial hardship. See if they will let you out of it. With so many people getting laid off, most places are trying to work with people.
You could also stop payment on their withdrawal so you don't continue racking up NSF charges, but they may try and take you to collections for the money.
You can always call an attorney and see if there is any help they can give you. Good luck!~~ |

Call your county bar association. Explain your problem, and ask if there is anything they can do to help you.
They may be able to refertyou to an attorney who will help you, without charge. All it will cost you is a phone call.
No promises, but it is a place to start. |

Close your bank account and open another one, then they cannot do a direct debit from your account, which I am assuming is how you are paying them. They will throw a huge fit and you will have to deal with it and you did sign the contract. You were ripped off it sounds, but you should not have to be paying $360 a month for a personal trainer either. Good luck to you!! |

NEVER sign until you read everything. If you do not understand, have someone else read the paperwork that does not work for the establishment.
As them to take the paperwork home to read it over. If the refuse, leave. They must be trying to hide something. |

Usually if you move a certain distance away they will let you off. Read the contract and find out. Or tell them to take a hike because you don't have any money to go after you anyway. |
