I need health insurance coverage.... especially for my prescription, I pay about $200.00 monthly on my medication, Effexor, Birth Control, Acne Cream.
I need help on what type of coverage I need... I don't want to pay $200.00 for it and then have to pay someother fee for prescriptions, I would rather pay the $200.00 for my prescriptions & not have insurance..... I want a coverage that I don't have to meet a $3500 deductible before coverage starts.... any advise??? Thanks!!! |

Since you are taking Effexor you will have a hard time getting an insurance plan that will cover you. Most plans, if they accept you, will put a rider on the depression and probably the acne. A rider means they won't cover the condition or anything resulting from the condition (such as medication) for a period of time. This period could be from one year to permanent.
You should visit a local independent agent who can search the plans to see what your options are. They don't charge any extra for the service. Don't try to do this over the internet because you won't know if a company will decline, rider, or increase the premium until you apply and go through the underwriting process. If you are unable to find insurance there is a free prescription discount card that may help: http://drugcardamerica.com/index.aspx?affid=265&agent=1&rxgrp=SAS265&affguid={b7e6c94d-8b80-4605-8155-29578bee9673} Since it's free it doesn't hurt to try. I even have clients with insurance who say they get a better deal using the card than using their insurance.
You may get answers here concerning medical discount cards. Be very wary of these cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn’t find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients. |

Well, an insurance company isn't going to take $25 a month from you and give you $200 back!! It's not the way it works!!
If you're healthy and 30, insurance is GOING to cost you $250 a month. But you're NOT healthy, you've got the effexor thing going on. I'd expect you'd be lucky to find someone to give you coverage at $400 a month, with no prescription coverage. Birth control and acne cream, well, you can pay for those out of pocket. |
