Health Insurance for Small Business Owner?
Wanting to know how to find out two things: 1) the best health insurance coverage and 2) for the best and most affordable price. My husband is the sole proprietor of a small business he runs. He'd like to get good health insurance for the two of us but what I've looked into has been incredibly expensive for good coverage or cheaper for not-so-good coverage. Someone recently told us to look into becoming incorporated as that may help (I don't know how though). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

~~There may be better tax advantages by incorporating but it will not affect your premiums. I don't know what state you live in, but I will give you the number to our insurance agent we use with Costco Insurance. Her name is Lisa and call her at 1-800-611-9057 ext #2206.

We currently have Costco Insurance which is under our business (has to have two people covered) and is through United Healthcare. They are excellent and our premiums for great coverage are very reasonable. It does go by age, so the younger you are the less it costs.preexistingting clause is required. Dental is also available.

Our business is suffering from the bad economy so we are currently working again with her to get us more of a major medical coverage to reduce the premiums, because things are so tight. This girl has gone out of her way to find us a top notch policy at unbelievable rates. It isn't through Costco anymore, which I loved having their backing, but it is with Blue Shield and it is still a very trustworthy insurance.

She'll do whatever she can to get you great insurance. We've used her for over 6 years now and she is awesome. I hope you live in a state which she can sell in. Good luck!~~

I'm not aware of any potential lower cost with being incorporated.

If it's any help, I was self employed for 6 years and insurance for myself, wife and 3 kids hung around the $800 mark and we were very healthy. That was with BCBS and they were great.

All you can do is get a bunch of quotes from multiple companies to compare the rates and coverage. Be sure and read the small print. There are sites that will get you multiple quotes by filling out one form:

Well the "best" health insurance coverage depends on who's it for. What's good or best for one person may not be so good for the other. The price can vary greatly on the person getting the coverage.
I used this site:
http://affordable-plans.awardspace.com/quote.php

...to get a quote sometime last year for me and my two kids. It wasn't too bad, about a $250 a month payment I think. I didn't go with it cause I ended up getting insurance thru my employer at the time. You can get a free quote there, check it out and play around with the numbers and see what you can come up with. Hope this helps.

Yep, with health insurance, you get what you pay for. Being incorporated isn't going to help. I've never seen a "one man group" which is what you're looking for - so you're basically looking for private health insurance. If you're both 30 and healthy and not overweight, a good low/no deductible plan, WITHOUT MATERNITY, is going to cost the two of you around $600 a month. With maternity, and a year wait before you can get pregnant, add an extra $300 a month.

That's just what it costs.

If you're pregnant now, or either of you have anything wrong, you can expect that health insurance will be much more expensive, to not available at any cost, depending on what's wrong. And if you're pregnant now, neither of you are insurable, until after the baby is born. Sorry.
