Health Insurance--is it worth it or not?

You bet. If you have one major illness or injury, it can bankrupt you. Spend a week in the hospital, you're looking at a bill around a hundred grand. If you have insurance, you'll pay AT MOST $2500. Have a baby and you'll easily spend $50,000 and that's just till that little sucker comes home with you.

If you have no major medical issues and are generally healthy opt for a low-premium, higher deductible plan. You'd spend about $200 a month for a single person and have a deductible of $2500 or so. If you don't use it, you'll only be spending $2400 a year for the coverage. An HMO plan will run you double that easily.

I spent an evening in an emergency room not too long ago. The trip cost $1000.

I guess if you never get sick, never get injured, and never need a doctor, it's not worth it.

Uninsured medical bills are the #1 reason for bankruptcy filings in the US.

Obviously, if you don't put in ANY claims, it's not worth it (in hindsight), and if you NEED it, it's worth it. Unfortunately, you can't buy it retroactively, and they haven't invented a crystal ball that really works for health issues.

A lot of people gamble on not needing it, and regret it. It's up to you to decide if you want to take the risk or not.

I've ALWAYS decided to carry it.

Get sick and be put in the hospital just once, and it will be worth it.

All participant had given a good answer. Nows a day, the medical card is attach with investment plan, and it won't lost money if client not using the medical card. This is because there is return value at the final. Better you bought one before suffer from any disease. This is because now you can choose insurance company, if latter, may company choose you.
Put the risk to insurance company, better than you handle your self. if get 'accident' than get claim, else get back return money.

Health insurance is like a parachute, when you need it but do not have it, you WILL NEVER need it again.

Most health insurance providers are not covered pre-existing health conditions. Some even excluded the coverage on complications caused by pre-existing conditions.

It it never too late to buy health insurance.

Mom of 2
Most definately. No matter how heathly you are you never know what can happen and the medical bills can pile up very quickly

Yes it is. When I was in college I had back surgery - from running too much of all things - at age 25. That whole fiasco cost me $30,000. Luckily I had health insurance. You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.

Go to: http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=616163&Type=health

Take care,
