Future Pathologist | Health Insurance until June? |
I'm a medical student on academic leave until late June. Basically, I need to wait for the foundations week that marks the beginning of the 3rd year at UCLA.
During the fall, I had the Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan with UC Riverside. Early this month of February, I had to go to the doctor because of bronchitis. A few weeks later, I received a letter informing me that the visit wasn't covered because I no longer have health insurance.
Financially, I have 7.7k debt on an auto loan, and about 8k in credit cards. I currently work part-time at Dell Taco and as a full-time temp at a lab. I can expect to earn about $1700 per month from now on.
The question is, where can I get health insurance and still pay off my debts? I had a few family members mention medicare, but I've only gotten lost so far. |

Several carriers provide temporary insurance that can be purchased for up to a year, including Blue Cross. Before signing up with any company, check with your doctor and local hospitals to insure that they will accept that carrier.
Unless you are over age 65 or have certain health problems, Medicare is not an option for you. |
